Love is many things to many different people. In her formative text, All About Love: New Visions, bell hooks defines love as โa combination of care, commitment, knowledge, responsibility, respect and trust.โ The Bible says love is patient, kind, does not envy nor boast, does not dishonor others, is not self-seeking, not easily angered and keeps no records of wrongs. Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Ke$ha says love is a drug (I truly love that song).ย
There are so many definitions of love, so many descriptions of what it is, how it feels, what it looks like. Thereโs not a lot of guidance onโฆ well, what it does. How do you show it? How do you live it? When love is in your life, how does it change you?
Letโs figure it out together.
This March, weโll be journaling under the theme of LOVE, under the prompt โLove isโฆโ Every Friday, Iโll be filling in the blank with something Iโm learning about love because I donโt have all the answers. Iโm always learning and yearning to know more and challenge what I already think I understand.ย
So weโre tackling loveโฆ again. Love is more than romance, more than family or friends, and even more than self-love. Love is a powerful force of energy. Love is shared but itโs also deeply personal. For each of us, our experience with and our expression of love will look different. And the impact that love has on us will be wholly unique, but maybe also relatable. Iโm looking forward to figuring out what LOVE is for each of us.
And Iโm really excited to learn about love from my students. If you want to do a deeper dive with me on the various ways we experience love in our lives, thereโs still time to sign up for my 6-week writing workshop, Finding the Right Words about LOVE where weโll be gathering as a community to discuss different types of love and using a wide variety of unique prompts to explore our thoughts and feelings about love. The Finding the Right Words March Challenge starts March 8, see you soon!

Oooh Iโm looking forward to this theme! I have tried unsuccessfully for years to finish all about love and I still have not reached the finished line. Maybe that should go on my March reading list to finally get through.
Love is more than a second hand emotion (I love that song, What's Love Got to Do With It).
